Susan "Sue" Kay Emmons' Obituary
Susan "Sue" Kay Emmons, age 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 29, 2024, in Muskegon, MI. She was born on April 20, 1942, in Charlotte, Michigan, to Donald and Audrey (Cox) Sexmith. On March 14, 1964, Sue married Dennis Emmons, and they were able to cherish over 60 years together. Sue graduated from Dearborn High School and pursued her love for the arts at Michigan State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts & Letters in 1964. Her musical talents shone brightly as she played the flute and piccolo with the West Shore Symphony Orchestra and was a substitute organist at First Congregational Church. A gifted instructor, she shared her love of music as a Private Flute Instructor, Piano Teacher, and Bell Choir Director, inspiring many through her teachings. Sue’s love for music shown bright in her dedication to the Church choir for over 52 years as well as all her many various musical ventures in helping others pursue their love for music.
Sue was responsible for the music and personnel of the many groups her husband directed. Sue and Dennis were a wonderful team in all their adventures together!
She also dedicated her talents as an administrative assistant at First Congregational Church and as a secretary to the Commercial Loan Department at Lumberman's Bank. Sue's kindness, patience, and gentle spirit touched everyone she met.
Sue will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Dennis; daughters, Julie Emmons Puntenney and Kim Emmons Brayton; grandchildren Olivia Puntenney, Betsy (Tim) Theran, and Benjamin (Jen) Potluri Brayton. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Memorial Service will be held on February 1st, 2025, at 11 AM at First Congregational Church UCC (1201 Jefferson St., Muskegon, MI 49441). Visitation with the family will take place beginning at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Music Program at First Congregational Church, in honor of Sue's lifelong passion.
