Susan French's Obituary
Susan French, age 52, of Grand Haven passed into the arms of her Heavenly Father on Sunday, February 24, 2013, following a courageous 5 year battle with cancer.
Susan was born November 16, 1960, in Grand Haven to Clyde and Phyllis (Poel) Kinkema and was a lifelong area resident. She graduated from Grand Haven Christian School and Western Michigan Christian High School before attending beauty school and becoming a licensed cosmetologist. She married Karl French on September 27, 1997 in Grand Haven, and they were blessed with two beautiful daughters. Susan owned and operated Harbor Hair Designers in Grand Haven for 28 years, and she also enjoyed assisting her husband with the daily operation of his business. She was a member of Second Christian Reformed Church in Grand Haven. She loved time spent at her family’s cottage on Bass Lake, boating with her family on the FrenchShip and entertaining poolside at home.
Susan will be forever loved and missed by her husband, Karl; her two daughters, Clarissa and Karlee, both at home; her father, Clyde (Jeanne) Kinkema of Holland; her sister, Nancy Pell of Spring Lake; two brothers, Doug (Patty) Kinkema of Lake City and Dale (Jill) Kinkema of Grand Haven; her father- and mother-in-law, Terry and Sylvia French of Grand Haven; a brother-in-law, Kevin (Shelly) French of Grand Haven; a sister-in-law, Amy (Rodney) Hecksel of Spring Lake; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Susan was preceded in death by her mother, Phyllis Kinkema, on August 19, 1986; and her brother-in-law, Jerry Pell.
The service for Susan will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 28, 2013, at Second Christian Reformed Church in Grand Haven with Rev. Michael Koetje officiating. Friends may meet the family 2-4 and 6-8 PM Wednesday at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in honor of Susan may be given to The College Education Fund for Clarissa and Karlee French C/O Michigan Commerce Bank or Grand Haven Christian School.
