Swannie "Sue" Guikema's Obituary
Miss Swannie “Sue” Guikema, age 88, of Muskegon, went to be with her Lord early Tuesday morning, July 5, 2005 at the home of her care-giver and sister, Betty Vanderlaan in Scottville. Sue was born on October 9, 1916 in Reeman, the daughter of John and Marthalena (VanBruggen) Guikema, and received her early education at the Reeman School. She was employed for many years at Standard Automotive in Muskegon, and furthered her education at Muskegon Community College, earning a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked for the Visiting Nurse Association and operated her own adult foster care home until her retirement. Sue was an active member of the Muskegon Gospel Chapel, and recently attended the Holland Chapel. She was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers Jennie, Gertrude, Emma, Rena, Gerrit, Arnold, Cornelius, Nick, and Henry. She will be lovingly remembered by her two sisters, Catherine Ekkel of Grand Rapids, and Betty (Howard) Vanderlaan of Scottville; her brother, John (Irma) Guikema of Greenfield, IA, and numerous nieces and nephews. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Friday at Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 737 Apple Ave., (231) 726-5210 with Mr. Ralph VanRyn officiating. Interment will take place at the Reeman Cemetery.
