Sybil Ellen Packingham's Obituary
Mrs. Sybil Ellen Packingham, age 92, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, May 10, 2017. She was born in Hesperia, Michigan on March 19, 1925 to Milton and Mabel (Sorter) Abbott. She spent her early years on their farm until her marriage to Robert (Bob) W. Packingham in Tampa, Florida on December 9, 1944. Sybil spent the next 23 years as a military wife and mother raising their five children. She felt her calling in life was being a wife and mother. After Bob retired from the military they settled in Muskegon, Michigan where they continued their married life together for the next 23 years until Bob’s passing on February 7, 1991. Sybil was a long standing member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church where she spent many years active with the Women’s Circle. She is survived by her children, Gary (Deana) Packingham, Candace (Jimmy) Mitchell, Robert Packingham and twin daughters, Patricia (Michael) Collis and Pamela Collis; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Orrin Lee (Virginia) Abbott; brother-in-law, Russell Packingham and close niece, Susan King. In addition to her husband, Sybil was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, four brothers and grandson, James Mitchell. VISITATION will be on Saturday 5 - 7 PM on May 13th at the Walburn Chapel Sytsema Funeral Home and Monday at 10:00 AM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church (1132 W. Southern Ave, Muskegon, MI 49441). SERVICES will be at the church at 11:00 AM with Pastor Jane Mountain officiating. Burial will be in Norton Cemetery. MEMORIALS in Sybil’s memory may be directed to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
