Mrs. Sylvia E. Kilpatrick's Obituary
Mrs. Sylvia Evelyn Kilpatrick, of Norton Shores, peacefully passed away Monday, May 29, 2023, at the age of 89. She was born October 30,1933, to Elias and Helen Guerrero, in Muskegon, Michigan where she was a lifelong resident. After graduating from St. Joseph’s Catholic High School, she was employed at Norge and then S.D. Warren, where she met her husband, Carleton Kilpatrick. They married in 1957, and eventually raised three children together. Sylvia was a servant of God and found joy as a dedicated volunteer in the community, her children’s schools and at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. In her last active years, she greeted parishioners before Mass, always with a friendly smile and, a few times, with a forgotten curler in her hair. While Sylvia was an only child, she was blessed with a large extended family of loyal friends who she truly cherished: from high school friends to new friends made at senior living and all the friends from the years in between. She had a way of forming lasting bonds with neighbors, club members, social groups and her St. Francis family. Sharing time with them was when she was happiest -- especially when there was sweet and tasty food involved. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carleton, and sister-in-law Marilyn Wilson Burt. Survivors include children: Scott (Connie) Kilpatrick, Steven (Jody) Kilpatrick, Laura Kilpatrick; six grandchildren: Jessica (Scott) Dickson, Zoe, Stellan, Keane, Julian, and Rowan Kilpatrick; and two great-grandchildren: Phthalo and Gilligan Dickson. Funeral Services will be celebrated Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Marian Chapel. A Rosary will be said at 10:00 with Visitation for friends until the Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM, followed by a luncheon in Shepherds Hall. The burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Sylvia may be made to the American Heart Association, Muskegon Catholic Central Education Foundation, or West Michigan Catholic Charities. Arrangements are with The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., Muskegon, MI 49441.
