Sylvia M. Vink's Obituary
Sylvia Maxine Vink, age 87, of Grand Haven passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at her home. She was born June 8, 1923, in Grand Haven, to Louis H. and Harriet (Fisher) Breitels. She married Leslie Vink on December 10, 1943, in Grand Haven, and he preceded her in death on May 10, 2003.
Sylvia was a lifelong resident of Grand Haven and had owned and operated “Sylvia’s Beauty Studio” for 30 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, and active as a Deaconess, Circle leader, usher, and active in discipleship classes. She was a member of the Bell Choir, conducted church services at several area nursing homes, and Moderator of Presbyterian Women’s Association. Sylvia was a former member of the Spring Lake Country Club, and co-chaired the Spring Lake Women’s Invitational Golf Tournament. She taught Ball Room dancing, along with Cornelius “Corky” Beukema for 18 years. She loved being with her family and friends.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Jeanne (Jack) Van Gelderen of Nunica; a son, Steven L. of Grand Haven; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Laura (David) Zwart, Jonah, Jacob, Noelle, and Hope; Denise (Matthew) Christiansen, Jeremy, Jessica, and baby girl Kristina; Kristin (Matthew) Broda; and Nathan (Victoria) Vink, Julien; a sister, Gwen Engleright of Nagshead, NC; a brother, Louis (Mary) Breitels of Spring Lake; and numerous special nieces and nephews.
The service for Sylvia will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at First Presbyterian Church in Grand Haven with Rev. Thomas Cook officiating. Friends may meet the family on Tuesday, March 29, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven.
