Terrance "Terry" L. McGovern's Obituary
Mr. Terrance “Terry” Lee McGovern, age 73, died Sunday evening, July 26, 2009 in Dayton, OH. He was born March 13, 1936 and resided most of his life in the Muskegon area before moving to Miamisburg 8 years ago. He retired 23 years ago as a machinist at Muskegon Piston Ring. He then worked an additional 10 years at Mercy Hospital. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles of Fruitport, MI and Miamisburg, OH; and formerly enjoyed racing motorcycles and playing slow-pitch softball in Muskegon. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church prior to moving to Ohio. He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Anna Marie Vermeulen in May of 1993. He then married Adrianna (‘nee Wagenmaker) Austin and she survives him along with 6 children, Terry (Susan) McGovern of Muskegon, Barbara (Tim) Stephenson of Traverse City, MI, Erin (Craig) Bedwin of Nunica, Dan (Janette) McGovern of Lutz, FL, Chris (Roxanne) McGovern of Muskegon and Kathy (Steve) Gibson of Sarasota, FL; 4 step-children, Kathy (Tony) Schumacher, Carla (Jack) VanGarderen, Craig (Jenny) Bogan and Cassie (Walt) Major; 22 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and 2 sisters, Alice Swanson and Edith Bartlett of Muskegon. Terry was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ace and James; 1 sister, Bonnie Neering and by his close friend, Russell Hutchins. The MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 11 AM Friday, July 31, 2009 at St. Thomas Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Michael Olson presiding. Burial will be in Mona View Cemetery. VISITATION with Terry’s family will be 6-8PM Thursday at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 737 Apple Avenue, Muskegon, MI 49442 (231-726-5210).
