Thelma A. Bergman's Obituary
Thelma A. Bergman, 90, widow of Vernon Bergman passed on January 1, 2020. She was born on July 23, 1929 to Marinus (Rean) and Ella (Sieplinga) Cook in Muskegon, MI. Thelma graduated from Muskegon High School in June of 1947, and on September 15, 1956 she married Vernon Bergman. Together they raised their four sons: Gordon (Rhonda) of W. Haven, CT, Darcy (deceased) (Linda) of Muskegon, Steven (Lisa) of Grand Rapids, and Doug (Sharon) of Muskegon. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Jennifer (Jeremy) Johnson, Stephanie (Jason) Storms, Rachel Bergman, Katie (Cory) Miller, Michael (Kelly) Bergman, Robert (Stephanie) Bergman, and Julie Bytwerk; 13 great-grandchildren, 2 step great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great -grandchildren. Preceding her in death was husband Vern, son Darcy, brothers Ed, Herm, Tom and Jim Cook, and sister Barb Spoelman. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Ann Vos, Joyce VanderMolen and Arla (Stu) Maginnis, and many friends and relatives. Thelma retired from Muskegon Community College, was a founding member of Celebration Community Church in Muskegon, and a long-time member of the former East Muskegon Christian Reformed Church. The memorial service for Thelma will be Monday, January 6, at 11:00 AM at Celebration Community Church, 1260 W. Sherman Blvd., Muskegon, 49441. Visitation at The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., Muskegon, MI 49441 will be Sunday, January 5, from 3-6 PM. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Bergman may be made to the Building Fund of Celebration Community Church, or the endowment funds of Muskegon Christian School or Western Michigan Christian High School/Middle School.
