Thelma E. Miel's Obituary
Thelma Miel, of Muskegon MI, died Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at her home with family at her bedside. She was 92 years old and recovering from injuries related to an April auto accident. She was born in Muskegon, MI, October 21, 1918 to Sydney and Margaret Smith. She married Henry Miel, Sr., in 1937 and he preceded her in death on January 1, 1996. Thelma is survived by her two sons Henry (Roberta) Miel Jr. and David (MaryLou) Miel as well as her two daughters Dawn (Dick) Goodrich and Millie (Rod) Ortiz-Richardson. She is survived by her older sister Frances Haney and two brothers: Sydney Smith, Marvin Smith, and her sister-in-law Ardith Austin. Thelma had 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, plus 1 great-grandchild due in August. She was the oldest member of Fruitland Baptist Church. Christ guided her life and every action. Thelma’s kindness and loving nature will be remembered by all who knew her. Generosity of both words and actions became her lifestyle. She was able to find the good and the “precious” in each person she met. Her beautiful smile could light up the room. She loved to help anyone and everyone. Her memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at Fruitland Baptist Church, 4611 Orshal Road, Whitehall, MI with Pastor Gene Walter officiating. Burial will take place in Laketon Twp. Cemetery. A memorial service for the residents of Nelson Place Senior Apartments, Muskegon, MI will be held 10:00 AM Monday, July 11, 2011 in their Theatre room. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Fruitland Baptist Church.
