Theodore W. "Ted" Bensinger's Obituary
Theodore W. “Ted” Bensinger, age 81, passed away early Wednesday, December 14, 2022. He was born on December 28, 1940, to Kenneth and Maxine (Warren) Bensinger in Muskegon, MI. He graduated from Muskegon High School class of 1959, and was proud to serve as drum major his senior year. He married the love of his life, Joanne L. Johnson, on February 16, 1962, in Muskegon. Together they cherished 60 years full of love, laughter and endless adventures. Ted continued his education at the University of Michigan, class of 1964, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. After graduation he made his way to Richardson, TX, where he resided for 35 years. He began his career as a college intern and worked through retirement for Collins Radio, which became Rockwell International, then Alcatel, as a dedicated engineering director. After retirement, he formed Bensinger Telecommunications and continued consulting in the industry for many years. Ted’s design work included contributions to the Apollo missions and space shuttle, early medical applications, and hybrid microelectronics. He was a brilliant man, known for his vast knowledge of computers and electronics. Ted was also involved in various organizations, such as the Masonic Lodge in Richardson, Olcott Yacht Club, Vikings Lodge, U of M Lakeshore Alumni Club and Muskegon Amateur Radio Club, and a valued asset to the Harbour Towne Condo Association. Ted had a passion for ham radio operating, home brewing, and making a difference by helping those in need. He was a kindhearted and generous man, who held a special place in the heart of many. Ted will truly be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife, Joanne Bensinger; two daughters, Melynda (Bob) Stolzenberg and Amy Bensinger; two beloved grandchildren, Jenna and Ryan McGuire; brother-in-law, Darrell Brown; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and a wide network of dear friends, family and colleagues with whom Ted kept in contact over the years. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Deborah Janikowski; and two brothers, Thomas (Janie) Bensinger and Kenneth Bensinger. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on May 30, 2023 at Lakeside Cemetery, 2201 Crozier, Muskegon, MI 49441. Memorial contributions in Ted’s honor can be directed to the Muskegon High School Class of 1959 Legacy Fund.
