Theodore L. "Ted" Bennett's Obituary
Theodore L. Bennett, age 81, died Monday, December 29, 2003, in Muskegon. Born on September 22, 1922, in Ionia, Michigan, to Albert and Goldie (Smith) Bennett, he moved to Muskegon in 1952. Mr. Bennett was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps and served during W.W. II. A 1st Lieutenant stationed in Horham, England, he piloted his B-17 through 35 missions over Europe. After the war, he became a heavy equipment operator and a member of the Operating Engineers Union and helped in the construction of many of the buildings we see around the state today. Mr. Bennett was also a member of Evanston Ave. Baptist Church since 1952. On November 6, 1943, he married the former Margaret R. Haney. She survives him along with four children, Carol (Rod) Stone of Tennessee, Nancy (Bill) Haynes of Ferrysburg, David (Shelly) Bennett, and Lorri Bennett both of the Muskegon area, 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Patricia Ann Oaks, of Belding. Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Bennett, his parents, one sister, Barbara, and one brother, Herbert. SERVICES will be at 1:00 PM Saturday at Evanston Ave. Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Oberg officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 2-4 & 6-8 PM Friday at Sytsema Funeral Home, 737 Apple Ave., 231-726-5210. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
