Mrs. Theresa Marie Shafer's Obituary
Mrs. Theresa Marie Shafer, age 93, passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at the Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence. Theresa was born August 9, 1925 in Scottville, MI to Steven and Elizabeth (Birkman) Kokx. On January 30, 1943, Theresa married Harold Lester Shafer and he survives her. She loved reading, gardening and crafts. Theresa once owned race horses and was involved in harness racing for 18 years. Most importantly in Theresa’s life was time spent with family. She is survived by Harold, her husband of 75 years; her children, David R. (Shirley) Shafer of Whitehall, Gary L. (Cindy) Shafer of Mattawan, MI, Dan H. (Donna) Shafer of Muskegon, Raymond L. (Jeannine) Shafer of Lawton, MI and Michael T. (Judy) Shafer of Muskegon; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Harry (Phyllis) Kokx of Hart, MI; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers; two sisters; daughter, Sharon A. Fricke; and grandson, Adam Joseph Shafer. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 12 Noon Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., 231-798-1100, with Rev. Fr. Norman Droski presiding. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service (10 AM-12 noon). Memorial Contributions may be made to the Harbor Hospice Foundation.
