Thomas A. Cook's Obituary
Mr. Thomas A. Cook, age 81, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2013 following a brief illness. He was born in Muskegon on January 18, 1932 to Marinus and Ella (Sieplinga) Cook. Tom graduated from Muskegon High School in 1951 and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in 1962. He was a dedicated and faithful Funeral Director at the Lee Funeral Home for over 40 years. Tom was a member of V.F.W. Post 3195, American Legion Post 9, Muskegon Hts. Optimist Club, Tatra Hall and was past Commodore of Mona Lake Boat Club. He also was a very skilled wood worker, spending many hours in his workshop at home. He married the former Esther L. Brown in Muskegon on June 29, 1956. She survives him along with 4 children, Nancy (Brian) Glendening, Tim (Toni) Cook, Karen Vanderstelt and Dan (Danielle Grooters) Cook; grandchildren, Kelly (Rick) Zambon, Lisa (Keith Hawkins) Davis, Tim (Brianna Johnson) Andersen, Jera (Brett Gilbert) Cook, Kristi (Nikki Gray) Cook, Tommy Cook, Amy Vanderstelt and Mark Vanderstelt; great-grandchildren, Trevor and Annie Zambon, Lauren, Ashley and Andrew Davis, Laney O’Rourke, Beau Andersen and Zain Zatalokin; 2 brothers, James (Joyce) Cook and Herman (Beverly) Cook; 1 sister, Thelma Bergman. He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward, sister, Barbara Spoelman and a great-grandson, Carson Vanderstelt. The FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100, Rev. Gerald Hagans officiating. Military honors will be held under the auspices of V.F.W. 3195. VISITATION will be Monday 6-8 p.m. He will be laid to rest in Norton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Harbor Hospice or Muskegon Rescue Mission will be appreciated.
