Thomas A. Eschbaugh's Obituary
Thomas A. Eschbaugh, age 74, passed away at home Monday, June 12, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 6, 1948, to John and Carolyn (Dempsey) Eschbaugh in Kansas City, MO. Tom graduated from Little Rock High School and continued his education at the University of Arkansas. There he earned his Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering. Tom was a proud U.S. Army veteran, serving his country during the Vietnam War in Germany, and retired a Major in the U.S Army Reserves. On November 29, 1980, he married the love of his life, Laura Greer under the snowy sky in Livonia, MI. Together they cherished 43 years full of love, laughter and endless adventures. Tom was a dedicated employee of 30+ years working as a program manager and mechanical engineer for Teledyne, Continental Motors and General Dynamics, retiring in 2011 from the latter. Tom grew up in Missouri but was never the person to sit around all day eating bon bons, he had an adventurous spirit. He was always on the move seeking new places and experiences, whether it was in the sky or sailing in the seas. He was a man of many hobbies: student pilot, skilled woodworker, a black belt in Taekwondo, and competitive in shooting sports. Tom had a passion for sailing, spending 12 years with Laura on their boat, Cool Hand, from Lake Michigan to the Bahamas and all stops in between. They loved spending their time out on the water, but always managed to find their way back to Michigan to enjoy their summers. He was a devoted and hardworking man who took pride in supporting his family. Above all, he was a family man, proud father, and loving grandpa. His unique sense of humor and stubbornness will be missed by many. He is survived by his loving wife, Laura Eschbaugh; two daughters, Jennifer (Josh) Frilling and Meghan (Eric Start) Eschbaugh; granddaughter, Daphne Start; and two nephews, Brandt Benjamin and Sean Benjamin. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Mary Jo (Bob) Benjamin. Arrangements entrusted to The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. Share memories with the family at www.sytsemafh.com.
