Thomas Duane Gzym's Obituary
Thomas D. Gzym, age 63, passed away in Grand Rapids, unexpectedly early Saturday evening, February 23, 2013 following a brief illness. He was born in Muskegon on November 21, 1949 to George and Janice Gzym and was a 1967 graduate of Mona Shores H.S. Tom was a U.S. Army veteran and following his discharge from service went on to Western Michigan University where he received his B.S. degree in Metallurgy. He was employed as Senior Metallurgist at Kaydon Corporation from 1978 to present. He married the former Dawn Johnson Miesch in Muskegon on November 22, 2008 and she survives him along with his: daughter, Jamie M. (Dr. Brian, M.D.) Downen of Greencastle, IN; son, Ryan N. (Traci) Gzym of Spring Lake; 4 grandsons, Caden & Logan Downen, and Emmit & Taygen Gzym; one brother, Roger Gzym and sister, Cheryl Cox both of Delaware. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert in 2000. The funeral service will be held at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., 231-798-1100 at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, February 27, 2013 with Rev. Gerald Hagans officiating. Military rites will be held under the auspices of the Muskegon County Council of Veterans. Visitation: Tuesday, 6-8 P.M. Memorial contributions: American Cancer Society.
