Thomas Elton Hicks' Obituary
Thomas “Tom” Elton Hicks, age 98, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at White Lake Assisted Living Center. He was born November 7, 1921 in Camden, TN to Roy Wm. and Esther (Greer) Hicks. Tom was a proud WWII veteran of the United States Army and fought in the Invasion of Normandy. During the war, Tom would cut hair for his comrades and continued this for many years for his sons, nephews and even the neighborhood boys. He married Elizabeth M. Norstrom on March 3, 1951 in Muskegon and she preceded him in death on August 21, 2014. Prior to his retirement in 1987, Tom worked 39 years as a Tool & Die Maker for Shaw-Walker Company. He was an Honorary Lifetime Member of the VFW Post in Camden, TN. Tom loved his family and greatly cherished his grandchildren. He enjoyed trout fishing, hunting, and outdoor gardening. He was the sweetest, kindest man who always gave you a smile and helping hand. Tom was always fixing things – in fact, there wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix! He will be greatly missed by his 3 children, Gregory Hicks of Muskegon, Bradley (Tammy) Hicks of Muskegon, Susan (Mike) Herbert of Whitehall; 5 grandchildren, Michael Hicks, Samantha (Thomas) Carrier, Zachary Herbert, Jacob Herbert, and Lacey Herbert. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth “Betty” M. Hicks; his parents; and 1 sister, Ella Ruth Hicks. A Graveside Service will be held 11:00 AM Monday, June 8, 2020 at Lakeside Cemetery (2201 Crozier Ave.) with Rev. Dr. William J. Rudd officiating. Military Honors will be offered by the Muskegon County Council of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Michigan Army National Guard Honor Team.
