Thomas M. Miller's Obituary
Thomas Michael Miller was born the third child of Stuart and Mable (Vanderstelt) Miller on Friday, November 30, 1951. Tom passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 17 while sleeping at “Deer Camp” in Walhalla, MI. Tom was a 1969 graduate of Orchard View High School. He retired last December from Mercy Health Partners after being employed as an X-ray Technologist for 42 years. Tom loved his job. Tom married the former Lynn DeGraff on July 17, 1971 at Bethany Christian Reformed Church. They recently celebrated their 45th anniversary. Tom took his X-ray training through Hackley Hospital from 1971-73. He was the top student in his class. Tom and Lynn have two sons and three grandchildren. Mark is pursuing his Master’s degree in Music at MSU. Matthew is an attorney in Muskegon. Miles and Luke are the grandsons. They are the sons of Mark and Shannon Miller. Lakelyn is the granddaughter. She is the daughter of Matthew and Lori Yonkers. Tom joined Bethany CRC in 1973 and served as a former deacon at the church and was a Cadet counselor for 19 years. He served on several committees at Bethany.
Tom enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, Cadets and his employment, watching the Detroit Tigers and Michigan football. He was a former Big Red Band Parent. He also formerly coached baseball at East Muskegon Little League. Most of all he loved Jesus and his family. His children and grandchildren were his greatest joy and pleasure. Tom was a member of the Fin and Feather Club of Mason County, in Scottville. He was also a member of Lincoln Golf Course. Tom was a quiet man. He had a gentle spirit about him. He would willingly help others. He was the best husband, father, Papa, brother and friend that one could have. Tom’s SURVIVORS are his brothers: Rick (Linda), John (Sherry), Stu (Lisa), and Tim (Nina) Miller; sister, Marie (Bob) Robbins; mother-in-law, Delores DeGraff; sister-in-law, Janis (Doug) Potter; brother-in-law, David (Vicki) DeGraff; and many nieces and nephews. He also will be missed by his good friends, Glenn and Suzanne Mosher and Mike and Carol Rork. He was preceded in death by, Stuart Miller and Mable Miller; father-in-law, Orrie DeGraff; brother-in-law, Jim DeWitt; sister-in-law, Nancy DeWitt; and nephew, Daniel DeGraff. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 1:00 PM Monday, November 21, 2016 at Bethany Christian Reformed Church, 1102 Terrace St., Muskegon, MI 49442 with Rev. John DeBoer officiating. VISITATION with Tom’s family will be held 2–4:00 PM Sunday, November 20, 2016 at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442.
