Thomas Michael Soltysiak's Obituary
Thomas Michael Soltysiak, lovingly known as "Tom," passed away on January 2, 2025, at the age of 74, surrounded by his family at Trinity Health Hospital in Muskegon, Michigan. Born on April 4, 1950, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Tom was the son of Martha and Marion Soltysiak, both of whom preceded him in death.
Tom’s legacy is carried on by his devoted wife of 25 years, Laraine Soltysiak. He was the beloved father of Brad (Angela) Soltysiak, Tara (Chris Smith) McDonald, and Ashley (Steven) Rudzinski, as well as the proud stepfather of Allyson Nelson and Jeremy (Cari) Nelson. Tom was also a loving grandfather to his six grandchildren: Jared Soltysiak, Jacob Soltysiak, Ben Soltysiak, Zohe Nelson, Lailee Nelson and Lola Rudzinski, who were the light of his life. He is survived by his siblings: Dr. Robert (Dawn) Soltysiak, Terri (Larry) Nichols, Tammi (Mark) DuBridge, Sherry Soltysiak, and Kit Soltysiak, along with countless friends and loved ones who will deeply miss him.
A man of many talents and passions, Tom graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technological University. He was the proud owner of Polyply Composites, where he earned the respect and admiration of his many employees throughout his career. His dedication to hard work and leadership was matched by his service to his country as a member of the U.S. National Guard. Tom’s zest for life extended to the pickleball court, ski slopes, and took him on travels far and wide. He was an avid fish enthusiast and a devoted fan of the University of Michigan – Go Blue! In his younger years, Tom shepherded his basketball team called the "Pollock Flock" to many Gus Macker victories and enjoyed countless games of softball.
Tom was a devout Catholic who lived his faith through action. He was deeply involved in his parish and participated in mission trips to the holy land, Italy, France, Ireland, Poland, and many other places across the globe, exemplifying his commitment to serving those in need. His quick wit, generous heart, and unwavering kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he met. As the self-proclaimed, “King of the Nerds," Tom embraced his Polish heritage with pride and instilled the values of hard work, generosity, and service in his children.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Tom’s life at St. Patrick Church of St. Patrick - St. Anthony Parish 920 Fulton St., Grand Haven, Michigan 49417. A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 5, from 2 to 5 p.m., followed by a rosary in the church. The funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 6, with lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to: The Brothers of St. John, Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal in New York, or The Shrine of the Miraculous Medal in Pennsylvania.
Tom’s life was a testament to love, faith, and service. He will be remembered for his humor, compassion, and the countless ways he enriched the lives of those around him.
