Thomas "Tom" P. Doman's Obituary
Skilled craftsman and musician, “Tom” Doman’s love of creativity didn’t end with his death on Tuesday, Februrary 28th, 2017 in Muskegon, MI. His craftsmanship, character and musical legacy will until the end of time, live on. Born on March 18th, 1949 in Toledo, OH Tom grew up in Monroe, MI before moving to the Upper Peninsula to embark on his journey as an organic dairy farmer. Maple syrup making, milking cows & gardening were amongst the many undertakings he did on the farm alongside his only son and confidant, Mischa. A distinguished musician, Tom excelled at playing the drums, saxophone & flute amongst other instruments. A true “Snow-Bird” at heart, idling in the wilds of Central America, Tom enjoyed traveling to many different countries with his life partner, Diane. A particular favorite travel destination of theirs was Mexico, a place they spent the majority of their time. A Partner in Keweenaw Bay Wreath Co, Art Fairs and Idlewild Studios, Tom was also known for his creations he made from wood; burl bowls, spoons and astoundingly beautiful rustic furnishings. An avid sailor, Tom could be found navigating the waters of the Great Lakes of Superior and Michigan, and more quaint lakes such as Lake Bacalar, just north of Belize.
Tom is survived by his son, Dr. Mischa (Kemmy) Doman; two granddaughters, Nadja and Aryana Doman; cousin Liz Doman, along with his life partner, Diane Simonson. A special thank you to amazing friends, John and Margie Mallo, whose guidance during Tom’s transition was pivotal.
