Thomas M. Voyt's Obituary
Thomas M. Voyt, age 82, passed away at his home on May 29, 2023 surrounded by family. He was born on September 22, 1940 to Michael and Edna (Grzybowski) Voyt in Muskegon, and had a special place in his heart for his loving step-mother Marie (following Edna’s death when he was young).
Tom was a long-time member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. He served his country in the United States Air National Guard. Although Tom retired in 2003 as President of Miller Engineering, he was an accountant who volunteered his time helping organizations like the American Business Club – Muskegon Chapter, the Muskegon Catholic Foundation, and the United Way. He was also involved with Prince of Peace Catholic Church building committee.
On June 5, 1965, Tom married Joyce Carter in Muskegon. His favorite joy was spending time with his family. He was always up for a boating adventure, fishing, scuba diving, traveling, or driving down two tracks just to see where they led. They were active in the Muskegon Yacht Club, Century Club, and Country Club. Tom and his wife, Joyce, also enjoyed traveling throughout the world and built a retirement home on the island of Ambergris Caye, Belize.
Along with his wife, Tom is survived by his three children: Thomas (Tracy) II, Timothy (Renee) and Barbara; seven grandchildren: Kate, Mikal-Marie, Carter, Blayden, Jordan, Kendal and Ellie. Tom has brothers: Robert Voyt and Joe Goryl, sister: Mary Ann Gorman, brother-in-law: Ned Carter and numerous nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Marie Voyt, brother Eugene Voyt and sister Lorraine Inglat.
A MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church (1716 6th Street) with Fr. Charles D. Hall presiding. VISITATION with the family will be 5-7 PM on Friday June 2, 2023, at The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., Muskegon, MI 49441. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be directed to your favorite charity, in honor of Tom. Inurnment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
