Thomas H. Heiner's Obituary
Thomas Harkins Heiner, age 66, of Grand Haven passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at a hospital in Grand Rapids. He was born January 24, 1945 in Toledo, Ohio to Harry H. and Harriett (Applegate) Heiner. Thomas married the former Julie Elizabeth Budde on September 15, 2002 in Grand Haven.
Tom proudly served in the US Navy during Vietnam. He was employed as a Sr. Technical Engineer of Special Products for Sprint Telephone until retiring. Previously Tom was employed by GTE and Lenkurt Corp. He was a member of Spring Lake Presbyterian Church, American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post #28, West Michigan Concert Winds and Prevailing Winds of Grand Haven.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Julie; a daughter, Christina (Robert) Saniga of Hudsonville; 3 sons: J. Mitchell Moore of Carpentersville, IL, Matthew (Cindy) Moore of Fruitport, and Scott (DeDe) Winterrowd of Cary, NC; 8 grandchildren: Bradley and Erin Saniga, Haley and Mandy Moore, Zachary and Tanner Moore, and Jonathon and Morgan Winterrowd; a sister, Molly (Van) Merkel of Virginia; his uncle, Donald (Dorothy) Applegate of Toledo, Ohio; his nephew, Christopher (Michelle) Merkel and God-daughter, Evelyn Merkel; 3 cousins and special friend, Maurice Anderson of Florida.
“He was a truly good man.” to quote his best friend of thirty years, Maurice Anderson, “The best way to sum up Tom was ‘integrity’. I never met another person with higher personal standards than Tom Heiner. Honesty was his lifestyle. His life was lived the way God intended. I shall miss you, my brother.”
A Memorial Service for Tom will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Spring Lake Presbyterian Church with Rev. Daniel Anderson officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at church. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion Post #28 of Grand Haven.
