Thomas P. Deephouse's Obituary
Tom lost his courageous battle with cancer Friday, May 11, 2007 peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on October 27, 1943 to Henry and Mary (Bush) Deephouse. He married Nancy Carden in 1960 and together they had three children. He was employed as a tool and die maker at various shops through the seventies when he became the owner of the Red Diamond Party Store on Getty Street. In 1979, he owned and operated The Comstock Inn in Hesperia and retired from there in 1995. After retiring, he enjoyed working part time as a ranger at Hickory Knoll Golf Course. His hobbies included early days of driving race cars at Thunderbird and attending all of his son’s athletic games. He was an avid fan of Nascar and golfing, but most of all loved working in his yard and spending winters in Texas. He is survived by his best friend and wife of 46 years, Nancy; 2 daughters, Tina Hopkins and Wendy (Steve) Rockwell; 1 son, Thomas (Jolynn) Deephouse; 7 grandchildren, Shannon, Dustin, Brooke, Michael, Collyn, Zachary and Stevie; 2 great-grandchildren, Riley and Ethan; 1 sister, Nancy (Merle) Johnson; 1 brother, Dan (Jody) Deephouse; 2 sisters-in-law, Jeanette (Robert) Foster and Janet (George) Chandler; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law, Dot and Don Carden; 2 brothers, Bob and Ike Deephouse; and his constant companion, “Socks”. SERVICES will be 1PM Tuesday at The Sytsema Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Ave. 231-726-5210 with Rev. John Brown officiating. VISITATION will be 2-4PM & 6-8PM Monday. INTERMENT will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. MEMORIALS may be made to WMSPCA Animal Rescue (6806 Evanston Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442) or the American Cancer Society.
