Timothy Craig James Campbell's Obituary
Timothy Craig James Campbell, age 66 of Grand Haven peacefully passed away at his home on January 13, 2015. Tim was born October 1, 1948 in Grand Rapids, MI to the late William and Donna Campbell of Spring Lake. He graduated from Spring Lake High School in 1966. After high school he attended Western Michigan University working towards a business degree, transferred to Central Michigan University to complete his degree in Business Administration. Tim then went on to receive a degree from Ferris State University in Diesel Mechanics and Heavy Duty Equipment Repair. He worked for Construction Aggregates for 25 years. During that time Tim received the "Outstanding Employee of the Year" award and finished his career with Standard Sand, Division of Fairmonet Minerals.
Tim devoted many, many hours to be an outstanding volunteer. In 1978 he joined the Soup Kitchen in Grand Rapids and for 25 years he faithfully gave two Sundays a month to serving food to the poor. For 23 years Tim gave of himself each week to coach swimming, cross country skiing, softball and other varied sports for Special Olympics of Michigan. He attend the National Summer Games as coach for Special Olympics held at Central Michigan University and in 1999 he received "Coach of the Year" for Area 12 for his devoted service. In 1999 his family celebrated Tim as he received his "star" in "A Night of 100 Stars" from the Volunteer Center of the Tri-Cities. Tim was a member St. Patrick Church in Grand Haven and became a Eucharist Minister for 5 years. He was honored to deliver the Eucharist to the ill and shut-ins and pray with them. His volunteering continued the last 4 years with LOVE, INC of Grand Haven as a receptionist and participating in the Bike and Home Repair Ministries. Tim was an outstanding outdoorsman, a 30 year member of Muskegon Bowmen Club and had a tremendous love for archery and the "traditional bow" again winning numerous awards for his "High Aggregate" (high points) in traditional bow shooting. His handmade longbow will be placed on a memorial plaque at Muskegon Bowmen Club
Tim will be lovingly remembered by his brothers and sisters: Karen (Frans) Jungslager of Marco Is, FL, Catherine (Gene) Anderson of Nunica, Tom (Shari) Campbell of Engelwood, FL, David (Jean) Campbell of Grand Rapids, Suzanne (Charles) Welton of Grand Haven, Bonnie (Mike) Hawes of Jenison, Bill (Debbie) Campbell of Grand Haven, Bob (Nancy) Campbell of Grand Haven, Jim (Lauren) Campbell of Mattawan, MI. Brother in Law, Roy Holmes of Nunica. He leaves 21 nieces and nephews and 23 great nieces and nephews. Tim will especially be missed by his many lifelong friends of the community.
Tim was a loving devoted son and brother and is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Donna and his younger sister Mary Christine Holmes.
Our appreciation goes to Drs. Thomas and Kathryn Alguire, the kind and caring staff of Johnson Cancer Center in Muskegon, especially Becky Youbtz, RN. Also our gratitude goes to Hospice and Heartwood Lodge Care Center for their guidance in the last weeks.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Friday, January 23, 2015 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Grand Haven with Father Phil Shangraw officiating. Visitation will be held 5 to 8 PM Thursday, January 22, 2015 at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home of Grand Haven with a Rosary service at 5:00 PM. Interment will take place in Spring Lake Cemetery.
