Timothy George "Tim" VanderSchaaf's Obituary
Timothy George “Tim” VanderSchaaf, age 62, of Spring Lake passed away suddenly Sunday, March 11, 2018. He was born April 6, 1955, in Grand Haven to Charles and Ginny (DeWitt) VanderSchaaf, and married Carol Wilson on April 12, 1975.
Tim graduated from Grand Haven High School and worked for the Township of Spring Lake, Department of Public Works Water Department for 25 years. He loved fishing from bluegill in Spring Lake to Salmon in Lake Michigan with his wife and soulmate Carol. There is nothing he loved more than to take people out on his boat and watch them catch fish. In recent years Tim also found a love of knife making which he learned from his good friend Doug Noren. He will be so dearly missed by his family and extended family at Spring Lake Township.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Carol VanderSchaaf of Spring Lake; his daughter, Dawn (Rick) Slagboom of Spring Lake; son, Josh VanderSchaaf of Holland; five grandchildren: Kyle, Chase, Nyda, Jordan, and Brayden; his parents, Ginny and Charles VanderSchaaf of Spring Lake; his sister, Chris (Art) Haas of Fruitport: and brother, Chuck (Tina) VanderSchaaf of Norton Shores; two brother-in-laws, Tom (Evelynn) Wilson, Rick (Elizabeth) Wilson; sister-in-law, Nancy Wilson, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his aunt, Cecilia Rose Wilson, and brother-in-law, Ron Wilson.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2018, at Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services – The Spring Lake Chapel with Rev. Dan Anderson officiating. Friends may meet the family from 1-3 p.m. Friday, at The Spring Lake Chapel (213 E. Savidge Street) Memorial contributions to The NOAH Project are appreciated.
