Tom Alex Twining's Obituary
Tom Alex Twining, age 68, passed away on Sunday morning, July 30, 2023, after a long battle with cancer surrounded by family. He was born on November 10, 1954, in Muskegon, MI, to Ivan and Maxine (Carlson) Twining and was a lifelong resident of the Muskegon area.
He was a beloved father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend. As a father, he devoted himself to the care of his three daughters and imbued them with a deep reverence for nature, a sense of responsibility for others, and a zest for the small adventures to be found in life. He delighted in the joy of others and was known for his ability to bring people together and create community. His career in sales took him all over West Michigan, but it was his work as a Sensei in Chi do Kwan which brought him to the highest levels in the American Karate System and connected him to students and martial arts masters around the world. Ever active, he could be found on the volleyball court, in the gym, or on the dance floor.
He is survived by his daughters, Jeran Johnson, Jenelle Yovino, and Casey Twining; and siblings, Donna Coley, Kim Emery, and Cindy and Brian Bonter. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Diane DeJonge; and brother, Larry Twining. He will be greatly missed by his grandkids, as well as his extensive circle of friends and chosen family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In honor of Tom, Memorial Contributions can be directed to The Leila & Cyrus Poppen Hospice Residence .
