Tony J. Hiner's Obituary
Tony Joe Hiner, age 71, passed away in Muskegon, MI, on Friday, January 16, 2026, following a long-term illness. Tony was born in Denver, CO, to Charles and Jacquelynn (McMahon) Hiner on February 20, 1954. He moved to Michigan when he was young and graduated from Orchard View High School. He worked in the Sara Lee Bakery in Traverse City for over 30 years.
In his younger years Tony enjoyed fly fishing, but more recently he liked to go thrift shopping, coloring in adult coloring books, and watching University of Michigan and Detroit Lions Football. Tony’s faith was very important to him. He was a longtime member at Fellowship Church in Muskegon, where he served as a greeter on Sundays. He also led a Bible study in his nursing home for the past few years. Tony was a kind, loving, trusting person who was eager to volunteer or help out where he could.
Tony is survived by his son: Daniel Hiner; granddaughter: Alana Stoutjesdyk; four siblings: Linda Fonger, Charles “Chuck” (Lily) Hiner, Edward (Sally) Hiner, and John (Kim) Russell Jr; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Jacquelynn (John Sr.) Russell; nephew, Garth Allen; and brother in-law, Robert Fonger.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held for Tony at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Fellowship Church, 4200 Apple Ave, Muskegon, MI, 49442, with VISITATION taking place an hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fellowship Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 Apple Ave, Muskegon, MI, 49442.
