Tony J. Jerovsek's Obituary
Tony J. Jerovsek, age 91, of Grand Haven passed away Thursday, March 6, 2008, at a local care facility. He was born January 29, 1917, in Houghton, Michigan, to Frank and Mary (Habian) Jerovsek, and he married the former Marian Ruth Hieftje on September 20, 1946, in Grand Haven. She preceded him in death on November 4, 1981.
At age 16 he served in the Civilian Conservation Corp on Isle Royal for one year and then in the copper mine for two years. Mr. Jerovsek moved to Grand Haven from Trimountain, MI, in 1939 and was employed as a machinist for Gardner-Denver until his retirement in 1981. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II as a sergeant in the 744th AAA Gun Battalion from 1941-1945. He was a life member of the VFW Sgt. Alvin Jonker Post #2326 in Grand Haven. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing pool and euchre, and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by three daughters: Janice L. (Robert) Swanson of Lowell, Marianne (Derk) Vokal of Midland, and Nancy L. (Rick) Justema of Grand Haven; two sons, Tony D. (Debbie) Jerovsek and David A. (Jennifer) Jerovsek, both of Grand Haven; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Agnes Koivunen of South Range, MI; a sister-in-law, Millie Jerovsek of Grand Haven; many nieces and nephews; close friend Gladys Killian and her family; and all of his friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Mary Ouelette, Marge Bergman, and Ann Klintworth; and three brothers: Frank, John, and Mike Jerovsek.
The service for Tony will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2008, at First Presbyterian Church in Grand Haven with Rev. Thomas Cook officiating. Friends may meet the family 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, March 9, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery. Military honors will be provided under the auspices of the VFW Sgt. Alvin Jonker Post #2326 Honor Guard. Memorial contributions in Tony’s name may be made to the VFW Sgt. Alvin Jonker Post #2326 or Shore Haven Living Center.
