Troy Scott Hamel's Obituary
Troy Scott Hamel, age 52, passed away at home on Monday, May 10, 2021. He was born October 24, 1968 in Muskegon to C. Thomas and Theda (Blackmar) Hamel and was a lifelong resident of the area. Troy graduated from Muskegon High School in 1987 and received his Associate of Arts degree from Muskegon Community College in 1989. On October 3, 1998, he married his high school sweetheart, Christine M. Rinard in Muskegon and she survives him. Troy was a very calm-spirited person and was a friend to all and a father figure to many. The most important people in Troy’s life were his wife, his daughters and his family and friends. Troy worked as a shipping and receiving clerk for Magna Donnelly for 17 years. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and was baptized into the faith in 2019. Troy was an active member of the Viking’s Linnea Lodge #57. He was a devoted Muskegon Big Reds fan and volunteered extensively for Muskegon Public Schools as a band & orchestra parent, a room dad, in the Mentoring Room at Muskegon Middle School tutoring at-risk students and with the soccer and softball teams. Troy was also an avid U of M Football Fan. He was a very proud “dance dad”. Troy will be greatly missed by his loving family and many friends. Survivors include his wife, Christine Hamel; 2 daughters, Rebecca Jeanne (fiancé, Cruz Pena) Hamel, Elizabeth Marie Hamel; his parents, C. Thomas and Theda Hamel; his mother-in-law, Carole McCammack; brother, James Hamel; sister, Amy Hamel; 2 brothers-in-law, Michael Little, Rick Little; 2 sisters-in-law, Jennifer Black, Amy (Mike) Trumbull; his nieces and nephews, Makayla Rennells, Katelyn Stenberg, Catherine Stenberg, Isaiah Black, Madelyn Weist, Hope Weist; and very close friends, Mark Fraser, Fred Bellanger, Paul St. Amour, and Ron Burr. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Virgil and Betty Blackmar, and James and Dorothy Hamel; and his beloved dog, Casey. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, May 21, 2021 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1006 Third Street, Muskegon, with Rev. Eileen B. Stoffan presiding. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Troy’s life later that day, 5-8 PM at the Hamel Residence, 2349 Harrison Avenue, Muskegon, MI 49441.
