Valarie Potts' Obituary
Mrs. Valarie (Roberts) Potts, age 65, departed this life and entered eternal rest on Monday, October 26, 2020. Valarie was born on November 19, 1954 to Sip Vickers and Vernon C. Roberts in Hattiesburg, MS. She enjoyed, cooking, traveling, spending time with family and speaking her mind to whomever she met. She attended L. J. Rowan High School in Hattiesburg. Valarie accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized at the Spring Street Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. W.L. McAfee where she was a member. Valarie leaves to cherish in memories the love of her life her husband, Robert Potts of Muskegon, MI; only beloved son, Willie Roberts of Muskegon, MI; two grandchildren, Mytaya Roberts and Indya Roberts of Muskegon, MI; five siblings, Francis Jean Whitfield, Mary Ann Thornton, Thelma Mae Longmire and Anthony Brown all of Muskegon, MI, Elizabeth Thomas of Detroit, MI; one brother-in-law, Ernest Grisham of Muskegon, MI; a host of cousins, relatives and friends; and special friends Marie McGuffey and the entire Life Circle Crew. Valarie was preceded in death by her parents, Sip Vickers and Vernon (Roberts) Brown; one brother, Willie James Roberts; and four sisters, Bobbie Jean Barlow, Mary Joyce Grisham, Gloria Carter, Mollie Ann Roberts and one granddaughter, Deashanae Moore. A VISITATION for Valarie will be held from 10AM-1PM Friday, November 6, 2020 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey Street, Norton Shores, Michigan 49444, (231) 798-1100. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the funeral home is allowed 80 guests in the building at a time. As people pay their respects to the family and exit the building, more guests will be allowed in. Masks will be required. A CELEBRATION OF VALARIE’S LIFE will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, November 6, 2020 at Oakwood Cemetery, 1452 Wood Street, Muskegon, MI 49442 with Minister Tommie Ellis officiating. BURIAL will be at Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Mytaya and Indeya Roberts College Fund.
