Velia "Betty" Vargas' Obituary
Mrs. Velia “Betty” Vargas, age 87, passed away Monday, December 29, 2008 at her home. Mrs. Vargas was born September 12, 1921 to Luis and Manuela (Vela) Garza in Fowlerton, TX. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and involved in Cursillo. She had been a teacher aide for the Title 1 Migrant Program, and was a foster grandmother, but she mainly was a loving mother and grandmother. Betty is survived by her children, Olga (Kurt) Stembol of Montague, Fifi Meyers and Mary Simmons of Muskegon, Carlos (Sandra) Vargas of Norton Shores and David (Kimberly) Vargas of Muskegon; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Rose Biros and Ann (Domingo) Gayton; special niece, Terry Escareno-Scraver and several other beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roberto R. Vargas in 1995; brother, Jesus Garza and son-in-law, Richard Simmons. SERVICES will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, January 3, 2009 at
