Mr. Vercil N. Potts' Obituary
Mr. Vercil N. Potts, age 86, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born on September 24, 1930 in Muskegon to Russell and Virginia (Sherbrook) Potts. On February 25, 1956 Vercil married the former Lois Vander Wall and they spent 61 years together. He served his country during the Korean War while in the Army. Vercil worked as a welder and helped build the Mackinaw Bridge before retiring from ironwork in 1972. He then purchased and ran his own business, White Insulating Company, here in Muskegon and retired in 1990. Vercil always enjoyed making and giving away airplanes out of pop cans and creating new templates to build. He loved cheering on the University of Michigan Wolverines as well as tending to his bountiful gardens. He enjoyed taking many fishing trips to Minnesota with his Dad and brother. Vercil was an overall handyman and could fix any problem that arose. Vercil was a member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church, in Muskegon. Vercil will be deeply missed by his wife, Lois; children, Daniel (Barbara) Potts, David (Carol) Potts, Donna (Larry) Grimm, and Darlene Hellman; grandchildren, Jon (Marie), Jordan (Morgan), James (Jena), Cecilia, Aaron (Elyce), Bessie (James), Zachary, Grace, and Lauren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Vernon (Virginia) Potts; sister Roberta Hill; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by grandsons, Geoffrey and Alex; and parents, Russell and Virginia. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held on Friday, July 28 at 12noon at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. (231) 798-1100 with Pastor John Rop officiating. VISITATION will be held 1 hour prior to the service from 11-12. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E Flower St, Phoenix, AZ 85014.
