Mr. Verlin Matthews' Obituary
Verlin Matthews, age 65, passed away September 25, 2018 at Henry Ford Hospital in West Bloomfield. Verlin was born January 15, 1953 to Tony and Annie (Dancy) Matthews in Columbus, MS. On December 6, 2009 he married the former Sheila Cole in Pontiac, MI. Verlin was employed as an engineer at General Motors for 30 years retiring in 2008. He was an avid fisherman, BBQ griller extraordinaire, and was very passionate about his Detroit Lions and Pistons. Along with his wife, Sheila, Verlin is survived by his children, Renee (Christopher) Williams and Kristopher (Tressa) Matthews of West Bloomfield and Kevin (Shiesha) Matthews of Auburns Hills; grandchildren, Christopher Williams Jr., Corey Williams, Kristopher J. Matthews II, Justin Matthews, Saniya Matthews, Peyton Matthews and Nolan Matthews; brothers, Jerome (Deborah) Matthews and Michael Ross; sisters, Shirley Matthews, Annie Pearl Jordan, Mylon (Gregory) Reynolds and Sonya Ross; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tony Matthews Sr, Annie (Mathews) Ross; stepfather, Kenneth Ross; brothers, Tony Mathews and Superintendent Tyrone Matthews. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Monday, October 1, 2018 at Fresh Anointing Church of God in Christ Church, 1121 Jefferson St. With Elder Willie William officiating. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 4-7 PM at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave. 231-726-5210. Interment will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
