Verlo D. Church's Obituary
Mr. Verlo DeRoy “Bud” Church, age 88, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2017. He was born May 9, 1929 in Brunswick, MI to Verlo D. and Lenora (Kempf) Church, Sr. Verlo was a graduate of Fremont High School and served his country during the Korean War with the United States Army. He worked over 35 years for Bennett Pump prior to retiring. On June 13, 1953, he married the former Donna Sparks in Grant, MI and she preceded him in death on July 29, 2002. Verlo was a life-member of the Whitehall American Legion Post #69 where he had been past Commander. He enjoyed traveling to see family and friends. When not keeping things fixed around the house that he had built, he was feeding the birds and shooing the squirrels. SURVIVORS include two children: Raelene (Jeff) Oslund of Boyne City, Steve (Catherine) Church of Lansing; three grandchildren: Ashley (Romy) Oslund Altamirano, Heather (Alan) Berryman, Clarissa (Robert) Boomer; three brothers: Robert Church of Holton, Gerald Church of Fremont, Bernard (Joyce) Church of Holton; and many nieces and nephews. SERVICES will be held 11:00 AM Friday, January 5, 2018 at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave., (231) 726-5210, with Pastor Scott Church officiating. VISITATION with the family will be from 4 PM – 7 PM Thursday, January 4, 2018 and also one hour prior to the service Friday morning. Burial will take place in Twin Lake Cemetery.
