Verna M. DeLong's Obituary
Mrs. Verna M. DeLong, age 90, passed away Saturday morning, June 4, 2011. She was born August 7, 1920 in Muskegon to Emeric and Signa (Strandlund) Halley. Mrs. DeLong worked for the City of Muskegon in the Treasurer’s Office before retiring. She was a member of St. Jean the Baptiste Catholic Church and was a member of the Woman’s Club of Muskegon. In some of her spare time she enjoyed doing crafts and ceramics. She also enjoyed spending time at their cottage in Freesoil, MI and wintering in Texas to spend time with her daughter and family. On August 14, 1943 she married Robert E. DeLong in Stockton, California and he preceded her in death on April 11, 2009. SURVIVORS include 3 children, Robert (Molly) DeLong, Jr. of Muskegon, Richard (Patricia) DeLong of Otsego, MI and Peggy (Richard “Keith”) Hartman of The Woodlands, TX; 7 grandchildren, Jennifer (Rob) Brown of Grosse Pointe Farms, MI, Brian (Krista) DeLong of Muskegon, Tom (Amber) DeLong of North Muskegon, Steven (Kellie) DeLong of Marshall, MI, Sara (Dave) Schroeder of DeWitt, MI, Arick (Brittney) Hartman of Pearl Harbor Naval Base, Hawaii, Alison Hartman of East Lansing; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her great-grandson, Joseph DeLong. The family would like to thank the staff of Harbor Hospice and Village at the Oaks for the excellent care given to Verna these past 6 months. THE FUNERAL LITURGY will be celebrated 11:00 AM Thursday at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Matthew J. Barnum presiding. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery. VISITATION with the family will be from 5-8 PM Wednesday at The Walburn Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. (231) 759-8565.
