Mrs. Vernetta Ethel Mae "Becky" Bassett-Rinehart's Obituary
Mrs. Vernetta Ethel Mae ‘Becky’ Bassett Rinehart, age 90, went to be with her Lord, Saturday, February 11, 2012. She was born in Quincy, IL on October 3, 1921 to Mr. and Mrs. George Beckermyer. She came to the Muskegon area from Chicago in 1945. On October 4, 1946 she married Elmer J. Bassett and he preceded her in death on September 5, 1972. In the summer of 1980, she married Leon F. Rinehart and he passed away in 1985. Becky had worked as a custodian in the Muskegon Public School System for 20 years prior to her retirement in 1983. She was a member of the Northside Bible Church where she loved the church music and being a part of the adult Sunday school discussions. Becky was also a member of the VFW #446 Ladies Auxiliary and the Muskegon Heights Eagles Ladies Auxiliary. She loved to dance and her laugh was contagious. Becky was involved with the senior citizen activities at McGraft Park as well as the dinners, dances, and senior activities at Orchard View. She was a dog lover (especially Pekinese) and also an avid doll collector. Becky loved her family and was a wonderful grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her children, Daniel Bassett of Grand Rapids, Marie (Tom) Shunta of Muskegon, Don (Deb) Rinehart of Rockford, Sandy (George) Goodrich of Branch, Sue (Ray) Coon of Homosassa, FL, and Rick Rinehart of Grandville, MI; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren (with 3 on the way); many nieces and nephews; special friend, Annie Dilts; and a very special niece, Yvonne Peterson. In addition to her husbands, Elmer and Leon, Becky was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Harold, John, and Arthur Beckermyer; a sister, Florinda Beckermyer; and her parents. THE FUNERAL SERVICE will be 11:00AM Thursday, February 16, 2012, at the Northside Bible Church (1937 N. Whitehall Rd.) with Rev. Lowell Wood officiating. VISITATION will be Wednesday from 6-8 PM at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave., 231-726-5210, and one hour prior to the service (10-11 AM) at the church. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
