Vernon E. Stanfield's Obituary
Vernon Earl Stanfield, age 90, passed away at his home in Twin Lake, MI, on Thursday, November 2, 2023. Vernon was born on August 25, 1933, in Walkerville, MI, to Ernest and Margaret (Ruckharbor) Stanfield. Vernon was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He worked as a core maker at CWC Foundry Company in Muskegon for 30 years, retiring in 1990. On September 10, 1955, he married the former Shirley Robinson, and they spent 67 wonderful years together until she preceded him in death in 2022. Vernon was a self-taught man who could fix about anything. In his younger years he enjoyed camping around Baldwin, MI, and he was also an avid bowler. He loved working in his yard and tending his garden, and also playing cribbage, euchre, and watching Gunsmoke. He always supported his children at their sporting events back in the day, and more recently he enjoyed being able to do the same for his grandchildren. He loved being visited by his family, especially his grandchildren. Vernon loved wintergreen lifesavers, and he was known to always have a few in his pocket that he would share with the people around him. Vernon will be lovingly remembered by his children: Robin (Glen Sr.) Buckhout, Tina Thompson, Mark (Debbie) Stanfield, Jeff (Alice) Stanfield, and Sandra (Todd) Peterson; 25 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; brother in-law, Jerry Robinson; sister in-law, Bonnie Robinson; many nieces and nephews; and a beloved shih tzu, AJ. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Margaret Stanfield; wife, Shirley Stanfield; son, Scott Stanfield; daughter in-law, Terri (Woodland) Stanfield; son in-law, Jimbo Thompson; and all 11 of his siblings. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be taking place for Vernon at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 10, 2023, at First Christian Church, 2755 Holton Rd, Muskegon, MI 49445. Memorial Contributions may be made out to AgeWell Services. Please sign the family’s online guestbook and share memories with the family at sytsemafh.com.
