Vicki Teresa Broom-Gates' Obituary
Vicki Teresa Broom-Gates, age 69, passed away Monday, February 16, 2026 at The Poppen Residence of Harbor Hospice.
Vicki was born March 31, 1956 in Muskegon, MI to Curtis Austin and Ernestine Broom and was a lifelong resident of the area. Vicki attended the Muskegon Public Schools System and graduated from Muskegon High School. Later in life, she married Johnny Gates.
She was employed by Bil-Mar Foods and later retired as a Certified Nurse Aide from Pioneer Resources. She leaves behind to cherish her memories her husband, Johnny Gates; 2 daughters, Maddison Broom, Tyler Broom; special niece, Victoria Broom; 1 grandson, Julian Wallace; 4 sisters, Lessie Hamilton, of League City, TX, Vivian Stokes, Brenda (Kevin) Davis of Muskegon, MI, Shelia Hooker of Las Vegas, NV; 1 brother, L.Q. Austin of Arizona; and a host of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by both parents, and 1 sister, Mary Moore, and 1 brother, Bryant Austin. In keeping with Vicki's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held 5-8 PM Sunday, March 1, 2026 at McGraft Park in Muskegon.
