Victor "Vic" Vipond's Obituary
Victor “Vic” Cleo Vipond, age 79, of Spring Lake went to be with his Lord on November 8, 2016. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was born August 28, 1937 in Kalkaska, MI to Arthur “Stanley” and Grace Waneta (Titus) Vipond. On September 27, 1958, he married Terry Blake and they spent 58 wonderful years together. He built his life around his family. Vic is survived by his wife, Terry; two children, Steven (Pamela) Vipond of Spring Lake, and Barbara (Patrick) Brackett of Spring Lake; five grandchildren: Stefanie (Josh) Herder, Natasha Brackett, Blake Vipond & fiancé Jenna Boeve, Briana Brackett, and Drew Brackett; brother, Leo (Sue) Vipond; sisters-in-law, Ev Vipond and Carol Bremer; brothers-in-law, Myron (Betty) Blake, Frank (Charlotte) Blake and Charles (Mary) Blake; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Coral Vipond, and his parents.
In 1955 he moved to the Spring Lake area, where he worked for Challenge Porcelain, and for Stanley Smart, at the Model Shell. This friendship spawned a partnership, and together, they ran the Model Shell in Spring Lake. Vic later went on to own it until the early 90s. During this time, he mentored many young men, showing them the ropes on how to work on cars and providing them guidance and many other life lessons. He was always willing to help people in any way he could. Vic was a member of All Shores Wesleyan Church. He was a lifetime member of the Grand Haven Elks Lodge #1200 and the Grand Haven Eagles FOE 925. He served as the president of the Businessman’s Association in Spring Lake. Vic was a talented baseball player in his younger years and continued to play fast pitch softball for many years. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, golf and snowmobiling. Vic was respected, admired and loved by his family, friends and the community. He always had a smile on his face and a big bear hug to warm their hearts. He will be greatly missed by anyone who knew him.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Monday, November 14, 2016 at All Shores Wesleyan Church with Pastor Ralph Baynum officiating. Visitation will be 2-5 and 6-8 PM Sunday, November 13, 2016 at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Spring Lake. Interment will take place in Spring Lake Cemetery.
