Mrs. Violet Rose Wiersema's Obituary
Mrs. Violet Rose Wiersema, age 97, died Sunday, December 27, 2020, in Muskegon. She was born May 7, 1923 in Milwaukee, WI to Albert and Mary (Kaskia) Goerlitz, and resided there until moving to Muskegon in 1944, as a young lady, following her father’s death. Vi had been an office worker at People’s Milling and Grocery Co. prior to her marriage. On July 5, 1946 she married Thomas J. Wiersema, and he preceded her in death on December 4, 1987. Vi was the Secretary of the East Dalton Oakhill Cemetery Association for 48 years, until her retirement at the age of 90. Following her retirement, she loved her hobby of bowling at Northway Lanes. She was a charter member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church. Survivors include her 8 children: Linda Conrad of Germany, Donna (Robert) Spratt of North Carolina, Carol (James) VanderPloeg of Florida, John Wiersema of Maryland, Albert (Elizabeth) Wiersema of Oregon, Anita Ezzo of Haslett, MI, Dale Wiersema of South Carolina, and Karen (Duane) Smith of Fruitport; 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Violet was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Marcella and Eleanor. A service to remember and celebrate Vi’s life will held on her birthday, May 7, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Calvin Christian Reformed Church, 973 W. Norton Ave., Muskegon, 49441, followed by light refreshments. Burial will take place at East Dalton Oakhill Cemetery at 4:00 PM. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Wiersema may be made to the Muskegon Rescue Mission or Calvin Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444.
