Virgil L. Temple's Obituary
Mr. Virgil L. Temple, age 89, passed away Wednesday afternoon, January 13, 2010 in Muskegon. He was born July 22, 1920 to Ira L. and Letty R. (Holland) Temple in Muscatine, Iowa, and moved to the Muskegon area in 1941. Virgil was a Sea-bee in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and worked at Teledyne Continental Motors for 41 years before retiring in 1982. He was a member of Laketon Bethel Reformed Church. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and gardener. He will be remembered by his grandchildren for the tractor rides and by others for sitting under the tree in the front yard. On July 31, 1941 Virgil married Lorraine E. Oppelt. She preceded him in death on May 18, 2004. SURVIVORS include 5 children, Jerry(Rose) Temple of Whitehall, Janice (David) Babcock of N. Muskegon, Jim (Darlene) Temple, Cindy (Wayne) Gordon, Kirk (Karen) Temple, all of Muskegon; 12 grandchildren, Terry, Charlene, Nick, Derek, Kim, Rachelle, Josh, Patrick, Kristina, Sherri, Scott, and Annette; 11 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and 2 brothers, Ira and William Temple. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Saturday at Laketon Bethel Reformed Church, with Rev. Dr. Sherwin Brantsen officiating. Burial will take place at Laketon Township Cemetery. VISITATION will be 1 hour prior to the service at church. Contributions in memory of Mr. Temple may be made to Harbor Hospice.
