Virginia Ann Burnside's Obituary
Virginia A. Burnside of Spring Lake peacefully passed away on November 27, 2024. She was born November 2, 1924, to Robert and Anna (Anderson) French in Spring Lake. On July 10, 1945, upon his return from the war, Virginia married the boy next door, the love of her life, and her high school sweetheart, Robert Daniel Burnside. They had been married for 49 years at the time of his death on January 21, 1994. Virginia loved to travel and was a voracious reader. She was also an avid bridge player, golfer and tennis player. In September of 2022 the Spring Lake Country Club held an event for their members who had belonged for 30 years or more. Virginia was given the honor of being the longest standing member coming in at 76 years. In her younger years Virginia was involved with the Spring Lake Golf Association at the Country Club. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader and choir mother at Spring Lake Presbyterian Church while her children were growing up. She was a member of the Grand Haven Women’s Club and spent many hours working on the Women’s Club book sale, “Up in Central Park”. Virginia loved spending time with her family and cherished time spent with her many friends. Her 2 grandchildren, Rob and Sophia, meant the world to her. She loved going to watch all of their activities and being involved in their lives. Virginia is survived by her daughters, Nancy Burnside, Pamela (Robert) Veneklasen and 2 grandchildren Robert and Sophia and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, daughter, Cheryl, two brothers Edward and Herbert French and her sister Esther Werschem. VISITATION will be Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Spring Lake Presbyterian Church, 760 E. Savidge St., Spring Lake, MI. 49456 with the FUNERAL SERVICE following at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers that family asks that contributions be made to either the Community Foundation – The Burnside Fund or to Spring Lake Presbyterian Church.
