Virginia Ann Vanderberg's Obituary
Virginia Ann “Ginny” Vanderberg 89, of Grand Haven, died, November 14, 2021, at Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital in East Grand Rapids, MI. She was born August 17, 1932, in Muskegon to C.T. and Margaret (Mercer). Virginia married her husband of 67 years, Gilbert V. Vanderberg, Jr. in Muskegon in 1954.
Survivors include, son, Alan G. “Al” Vanderberg (Leslie); daughter Margaret “L. “Mitzi” Monroe (Randy Monroe) of Springfield, OH; grandchildren, Samantha Vanderberg, of Ventura, CA; Peter Vanderberg, Anna Vanderberg and Amy Vanderberg, of Grand Rapids, MI; Stephen Monroe (Crystal) and Jonathan Monroe, both of Springfield, OH; sisters-in-law Delores Vanderberg of Farmington Hills and Janice Mudgett of Traverse city; numerous nieces and nephews; and two great-grandchildren; Noah and Emily Monroe of Springfield, OH. She was preceded in death by her husband Gilbert on October 13, 2021; parents; and brothers David Mudgett and Dr. James Mudgett and sister-in-law Karen Mudgett (James).
Ginny was a voracious reader and passed this trait down to her children and grandchildren. She was heavily involved with the local Christian Women’s Club and many church related activities including managing the book collection at her church as volunteer librarian for many years. Ginny felt it her civic duty to help with elections and worked as a part-time election worker for many years with the Grand Haven Charter Township Clerk’s Office.
Virginia resided at Christian Haven Home in Grand Haven since 2014 where she enjoyed the comradery of friends and staff and loved to participate in the many events provided there. She especially liked to take walks, attend and facilitate Bible studies, and garden: her two large garden boxes were known for their beauty and the variety of her flowers.
Virginia delighted in the company of her family and friends and will be missed by many.
Funeral service will be 9:30 AM Saturday, November 20, 2021, at The VanZantwick Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 620 Washington Ave, Grand Haven, MI 49417. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Friday, November 19, 2021, at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Lake Forest Cemetery.
