Virginia "Aunt Jane" Van Horssen's Obituary
Virginia “Aunt Jane” Ann Van Horssen, age 85, of Grand Haven passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, April 25, 2010, at a local hospital. She was born September 1, 1924, in Grand Haven, to Pawel and Katherine (Sowiak) Raskiewicz. She was married to Robert W. Van Horssen, Sr. on June 15, 1946, in Grand Haven, and he preceded her in death on May 24, 2002.
Virginia was a 1942 graduate of Grand Haven High School, a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Altar Society, also a member of the American Legion Post #28 Auxiliary. She was an avid bridge player and shopper, enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading and entertaining. Virginia was proud of her Polish heritage and everyone was welcomed in her home. She has left her family with many loving memories.
She is lovingly remembered by 2 daughters: Susan (Greg) Fodrocy, and Melissa Marcinkus, both of Grand Haven; 6 sons: Kurt Van Horssen of Grand Rapids, Leif Van Horssen of Grand Haven, Gunther (Alice) Van Horssen of Ann Arbor, Chad (Kathi) Van Horssen of Marne, Matthew Van Horssen of Grand Haven, and Hans Van Horssen of Grand Haven; 22 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 sons, Eric and Robert Van Horssen, Jr., 1 grandson Joshua, 2 sisters, Leocadia Streng, and Viola McDowell, and 5 brothers: Walter, Chester, Eddie, Kenny, and Todd Raskiewicz.
The Funeral Mass for Virginia will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 29, 2010, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grand Haven with Rev. Fr. William Langlois and Rev. Fr. Jack McDowell officiating. Friends may meet the family from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Wednesday, April 28, at the VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorial contributions to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or the Memorial Day Association are appreciated.
