Mr. Vitalis "Ted" Jastrzembski's Obituary
Vitalis “Ted” Jastrzembski, longtime resident of Grand Haven, passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2012, at the Sanctuary at the Shore in Grand Haven. He was 87.
He was born in Muskegon, to the late Rose (Morgulec) and Karol Jastrzembski, who immigrated to the US from a Polish community in the Ukraine in 1914. After serving in Britain during WWII, with the US Army Air Corp, Ted moved to Springfield, Missouri, where he married Sue Dodson, May 8, 1948. Together they relocated to Muskegon in 1951 where Ted had a career in camshaft manufacturing. They moved to the Lake Michigan shore in Grand Haven in 1954, where they raised their family. In the late 60s they purchased Virginia’s Restaurant, south of Grand Haven on US 31, which they operated together for many years along with members of the family as Paupers’ Restaurant.
Ted enjoyed his cottages in the area south of Highland Park among the dunes, beachcombing, fishing, and entertaining family and friends. He was known throughout his life for his enjoyment of, and his good luck with, various games of chance, frequenting Michigan casinos with his brother Stan, of North Muskegon, and his family and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife of 38 years, Sue Dodson; a son, Todd Joseph; and grandchildren, Stefanie Shields Bol and Karl Lynn Jastrzembski. He is survived by his brother, Stanley, of North Muskegon; son, Ted (Kathryn), Hanover, New Hampshire; granddaughter, Emily Jastrzembski (Jonathan Lachance), of San Francisco, CA; great grandchildren, Cecilia Lachance and Emanuel Lachance; granddaughter, Amanda Jastrzembski, New York City; grandson, Benjamin Jastrzembski, Boston, MA; son, Daniel (Amy), Kalamazoo, MI; grandson, Todd (Cassie), St. Joseph, MI; daughter, Susan VanHall (Michael), West Olive, MI; grandson, Michael (Karey), Washington, DC; granddaughter, Jacqueline, Chicago, IL; daughter, Tina Shields (Rick), Grand Haven; daughter, Trudy Jeske (Brad), Stuart, FL; grandson, Matthew, Stuart, FL; son, Anthony (Amy Manley), Grand Rapids, MI; grandson, Jacob; granddaughters, Madelyn and Olivia; son, Carl (Chris), Holland, MI; granddaughter, Morgan; stepgranddaughter, Stephanie; stepgrandson, Calvin; daughter, Amy Walburg (Kevin), Grand Haven; grandsons, Alex and Ethan; and granddaughter, Josie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Rev. Father William Langlois officiating. Visitation will take place 1 hour prior to the service at church. Interment will take place in Lake Forest Cemetery.
