Vivian I. Hock's Obituary
Vivian I. (Née Carroll) Hock, age 88 of Grand Haven, MI, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2022 with her loving family by her side. Vivian was born September 18, 1934 in Chicago, IL, to the late Elizabeth (Née Rogers) and Edwin Carroll.
Beloved wife to the late David A. Hock for 58 years. Devoted mother to Karen (Gene) Phelps, Susan (Dan) Conley, and Mark (Carole Bielak) Hock. Cherished grandmother to Tricia Phelps (Michael Beauchamp-Cohen), Shane (Maria) Phelps, Brett (Tonya) Phelps, Catherine Conley (Angel Ramirez), Will Conley, Melissa (Jeremy) Drager, Alex Hock (Tara Gray), and Tyler Hock. Doting great-grandmother to Noah and Juniper Phelps. Loving sister to Donna (the late William) Lahey. Dear aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Vivian graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Mundelein College and a master’s degree from University of Detroit. Some of Vivian’s greatest passions were teaching mathematics, attending theater and performing arts, traveling, cake decorating, and fitness classes. Family and friends will remember Vivian for her kindness, generosity, and warm, caring hugs.
Vivian was an incredibly strong, progessive, fun-loving woman who loved her family fiercely and it was our honor to call her mom. We are comforted to know she is now with her dear husband, Dave, who has been waiting patiently for his wife (as usual) for 7 years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 29, 2023 at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church (6955 N. Hiawatha Avenue, Chicago, IL 60646). Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service (9-10AM).
In lieu of flowers, donations in Vivian's memory would be gratefully accepted by either
Misericorida Hearts of Mercy or Loyola University Chicago's Gannon Center for Women & Leadership.
