Vivian J. (McGowen) Cranston's Obituary
Mrs. Vivian J. (McGowen) Cranston, age 86, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2009 in Muskegon. She was born August 12, 1923 in Muskegon to Edward and Freda (Tozer) McGowen and lived in the area her entire life. On April 13, 1945, she married Earl J. Cranston in Muskegon and he preceded her in death. Prior to retirement in 1991, she worked for 33 years at Sears. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church. She built an “A-frame” cottage on White River outside of Hesperia which became her passion after her husband died. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends there. She was a loving, caring mother, who was devoted to her children. SURVIVORS include her children, Karen A. (Frank) Farmer, Earl E. Cranston and Sandra K. Witkowski; 4 grandchildren, Christine M. (Nathan) Witt, Martin F. (Adriana) Farmer, Daniel J. Witkowski, Neil R. (Rachael) Witkowski; 3 great-grandchildren, Lauren Witt, Julian Witt and Jacek Witkowski. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and 1 brother, Gerald McGowen. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday at Central United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Bekofske officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service, 10-11 AM Wednesday at the church. INTERMENT will take place at Oakwood Cemetery.
