Vivian S. (Senecal) Duff's Obituary
Mrs. Vivian S. (Senecal) Duff, age 93, passed away Sunday evening, May 3, 2009 at Hackley VNS Hospice House. She was born to George and Louise (Aube) Senecal on August 24, 1915, and was a life-resident of the Bluffton Neighborhood where she lived only a block from the home in which she was born. On June 22, 1935, she married Elmer Thomas Duff in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on July 20, 1979. Prior to her retirement in 1970, she worked 20 years as the manager for Westran Credit Union. She also worked many years as a poll worker for elections. She was a charter member of St. Francis deSales Catholic Church where she was active on the Altar Guild and many church circles. She was president of the Women’s Auxiliary for Knights of Columbus Council #706 and past-president of Bluffton PTA. She more recently was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Vivian enjoyed entertaining, knitting, and cooking. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After her retirement, she traveled extensively to Europe and wintered in California with her daughter, Maureen. SURVIVORS include 7 children, Michael Duff of Muskegon, Mary Louise Erickson of Muskegon, Denny (Suzanne) Duff of Muskegon, Patricia (Richard) DeLong of Otsego, MI, Maureen (John) Parenti of Danville, CA, Jean VanSlambrouck of Douglas, MI, Joseph (Dianne) Duff of Gaylord, MI; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Jean Senecal, Hazel Duff and Adelaine Duff. Along with her husband, Elmer, she was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Annette Duff; 1 granddaughter, Renee Duff; her son-in-law, Thomas Erickson Sr.; her parents; 2 brothers, Albert “Leo” and George “Bud” Senecal. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 11:00 AM Thursday, May 7, 2009, at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Michael P. Olson as celebrant. INTERMENT will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery. VISITATION with Vivian’s family will be 5-8 PM Wednesday at The Walburn Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., (231) 759-8565. The Rosary will be prayed 7:30 PM Wednesday evening. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the Mass, 10-11 AM Thursday at the church.
