My sympathy to Joanne, Janet, Roger, Linda, Krystal, Sarah and family. Wally was a friend to many people and stranger to none. Heaven's gain is the earth's loss. My family has many pleasant memories of Wally over the past 50+ years. He was the Oriole Street "mayor" and always enjoyed his neighbors and friends.
Wally was a dear friend of our family, and we all enjoyed his sense of humor and love for people. Could he ever talk! :) He always had lots to say, but was also a good listener, and genuinely interested in what was going on in our lives. He was an honest and honorable man, and many looked up to him.
We had lots of fun helping get the pool built, then enjoyed swimming and having fun in it afterwards. Our family was invited to one of his "Shrimp Boils" at their house, and it was so delicious. He just made everything fun, and we will all miss this sweet man so much.
I'm sorry I couldn't attend his funeral. Roger, Janet and all your families, you have our sympathy and you'll all be in our prayers.

A true gentleman and good neighbor. From the block parties at his house, the kids parades with an official road commission road closure on our street, the get togethers at his the family pool, the pig roasts, the smoked fish, and many other special times, Wally made everyone feel welcome. Lots of things memories are made of. We'll miss you Wally.
Wally has meant so much to me growing up on Oriole, always there with good advice and making time to talk about anything. He was down to earth man, learning how to bow hunt and swim at his house, with a smile on his face "all" the time. He lived life to the fullest, something all of us should take note, not letting the bad things bring him down. I will miss him and know he's in heaven with smile and a story to tell.
Love you Wally, Rest in Peace.

Simply put Wally was one of the finest men I've ever known. The "Mayor of Oriole Street" was a trusted friend to all who knew him as he served his friends and neighbors for several generations. His World War II memories helped to educate many Fruitport students as he shared with them both his love of country and a willingness to help others. It is so very difficult to put into words what he meant to myself as well as my family. Yes, tears are flowing from my eyes as we have lost someone very special... I loved that man and was blessed to know him for over 40 years.
Wally was one of the 'Good Guys'... We enjoyed many of his seasoned pork roasts and, at the last visit just recently, asked "have you had a seasoned pork roast lately". We enjoyed the apples and peaches he picked up and brought to Red Cross for us to purchase. We also have a Red Cross address sign personally put up in front of our house by Wally. There is a new angel in heaven........ Wally you will be missed!!!
