Walter L. Brewer's Obituary
Mr. Walter LaVerne Brewer, age 81, passed away early Wednesday morning, December 31, 2008. He was born August 18, 1927 in Muskegon, MI to Van and Viola (Westergreen) Brewer and had been a life resident. Mr. Brewer was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran in the Pacific. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, where he had been a Eucharistic Minister. He also served as a Eucharistic Minister for Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and Mercy Hospital, and was a member of DeColores and Cursillo. Mr. Brewer worked for Shaw-Walker for 42 years before retiring in 1988. On July 9, 1971 he married the former Virgene Blanchette in Muskegon and she preceded him in death on August 29, 2000. SURVIVORS include 10 children, Doug (Nancy) Brewer, Tom Gangwer, LaVon (Mike) Thoma, Barb (Gary) Singleton, Bryan (Sue) Brewer, Jim (Theresa) Gangwer, Jennifer (Robert) Goddard, Chuck Gangwer, Sharon (Scott) Terwilliger, Ron Gangwer; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, William Brewer; many nieces and nephews; and will be sadly missed by his best friend and companion, Majesty. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Brewer. A MEMORIAL MASS will be celebrated 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 7, 2008, at St. Thomas Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Michael P. Olson presiding. Inurnment will take place in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. VISITATION will be one hour prior to the service. MEMORIALS to the Hepatitis Foundation will be appreciated.
