Walter L. Hannan's Obituary
Mr. Walter L. Hannan, age 63, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2009 in Sebring, FL after a 2 year battle with cancer. He was born December 13, 1945 in Bay City, MI to Walter and Ada (Dee) Hannan. Walter earned his BS in Education from Western Michigan University and his BA in Business from Ferris State University and his Master in Business Administration from Western Michigan University. He worked a number of years as a high school teacher and college professor for Baker College. He also worked in numerous locations in retail management, most recently for WalMart in Sebring, FL. On October 17, 1980, he married the former Mary Beth Olding in Muskegon and she survives him. Walter’s many hobbies included canoeing, playing his banjo, solving crossword puzzles and his beloved Michigan State Spartans. SURVIVORS include his wife, Mary Beth Hannan of Sebring, FL; 1 daughter, Kathi (Richard) Benton of Muskegon; 1 son, Michael (Tracy) Hannan of Muskegon; 5 grandchildren, Oakleigh, Alex, Caitlin, Kiley, and Colby; 1 brother, David (Kim) Ruhno of Saginaw; 1 uncle, Jim (Deanna) Dee of Bay City. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his step-father, Wilbur Ruhno; and his best canine friends "Buddy" and "Casey". VISITATION with Walter’s family will be held 5-7 PM Wednesday at The Sytsema Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 737 Apple Avenue, (231) 726-5210, www.sytsemafh.com.
